Our History

The choice of El Salvador was inspired by the success of Dr. Roberto Arevalo Araujo and his group of talented physicians, nurses, and technicians. Since 1992, their group — Medical Mission of Mercy (MMM) — had undertaken annual missions to provide expert medical care to the impoverished people in eastern El Salvador. MMM’s efforts were recognized by the Salvadoran government and it was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.

In 2001, Dr. Araujo told the story of his medical mission work to one of his patients, David V. King, a business man and philanthropist. David visited Jucuapa, El Salvador, saw the dreadful conditions and volunteered his efforts to build e modern medical facility in Jucuapa, El Salvador.

In 2003, Dr. Araujo, David King and Bradley King founded Medical Mission International, Inc. ("MMI"), and ever since, this 501©3 organization has worked tirelessly to raise funds, establish local partners, purchase and permit land, and construct the David V. King Medical Center (the "Center.") Over the ensuing years, MMI has improved other existing medical facilities while pursuing the vision of David V. King and Dr. Araujo.

In 2010, MMI began construction of the state-of-the-art Center. The construction was completed in April 2011 and the medical portion of the Center opened in November 2011. The Center has provided more than 45,000 patients services since it opened.

In 2013, the Center opened a two-chair dental facility and in 2014, it completed the build-out and furnishing of two state-of-the-art operating rooms with post-op recovery rooms.
